"Disabled and Non-Disabled United" National Theater, Barrier-Free Concert '2023 Together, Spring'
April 15th, 3 PM, National Theater Haerum Theater
An orchestra composed of disabled and non-disabled marginalized youth becomes the herald of spring, delivering sweet melodies on stage.
The National Theater announced on the 20th that the Beautiful Mind Orchestra's classical concert "2023 Together, Spring" will be held on April 15 at the Haeoreum Theater.
The Beautiful Mind Orchestra is a band consisting of about 50 disabled and non-disabled marginalized youth. Pianist Yoon Han will join as a soloist for this performance, and the conductor is Lee Wonsook, who has led the orchestra for 14 years.
This performance will provide audio descriptions for the visually impaired and sign language interpretation for the hearing impaired. The Beautiful Mind Orchestra is taking the stage for the second time following last year's "Together, Spring," planned as part of the National Theater's "Companion, Creating a Barrier-Free Theater" initiative.
The first part begins with Johann Strauss II's "Voices of Spring Waltz," fitting for the fresh spring season. It will also feature Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings" and composer Lee Jisoo's "Arirang Rhapsody," a reinterpretation of the Milyang Arirang.
In the second part, pianist Yoon Han will perform as a soloist. Yoon Han, active as a pop pianist and composer, will collaborate on his piano piece "Waltz of the Wind" from his collection "Extremely Private" and film music. Additionally, familiar movie OSTs such as "007 Dr. No," "Love Affair," "Joker," and "Mission: Impossible" will be performed.
The announcer Moon Ji-ae will provide commentary on the flow of the pieces and the performance throughout the concert. A professional sign language interpreter will simultaneously interpret this, which will be displayed on large screens on both sides of the stage. Furthermore, the National Theater's website and YouTube channel will offer pre-performance program information with sign language interpretation, audio description, and subtitles included.
