Hands-on Practice with Mannequins and Automated External Defibrillators to Enable Quick Response in Cardiac Arrest Cases
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is operating the "Gwanaksan CPR Experience Center" at the waterfall rest area on the Gwanaksan hiking trail to coincide with the peak hiking season.
If CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) are performed within the golden time of 4 minutes after cardiac arrest, the survival rate increases by about three times. However, according to the National Park Basic Statistics Survey, 40% of deaths in national parks in 2021 were due to sudden cardiac arrest.
Accordingly, from March to September (excluding the summer months of July and August) when the number of hikers increases, CPR training will be conducted for hikers and local residents on the second Saturday of every month.
The training includes ▲"Knowing How to Respond" when a cardiac arrest occurs during hiking ▲"One-on-One Chest Compression Practice" using CPR mannequins ▲How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) ▲Watching videos on CPR and AED usage.
This training is expected to help residents recognize the importance of CPR and enable quick response in emergencies during hiking, thereby supporting safe hiking experiences for residents.
