Yeongyang-gun Operates 'Tuberculosis Prevention Week' to Promote Health Screening Activation
Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is operating a "Tuberculosis Prevention Week" for seven days starting from the 20th to raise awareness of the importance of tuberculosis prevention and management and to promote screening in commemoration of the 13th World Tuberculosis Day.
Tuberculosis is a respiratory infectious disease that can be transmitted through the saliva and droplets of tuberculosis patients and can infect any part of the body such as the lungs, organs, and bones.
In the case of pulmonary tuberculosis, the risk of transmission is high with prolonged exposure, so it is important to undergo early screening if symptoms appear. Major symptoms include cough lasting more than two weeks, fever, weight loss, and hemoptysis, and it can be diagnosed through simple chest X-rays and sputum tests.
During Tuberculosis Prevention Week, various tuberculosis prevention informational materials and leaflets such as "Get screened for tuberculosis if you have a cough lasting more than two weeks" and "Four prevention rules to stop tuberculosis" will be distributed to help residents understand. Intensive promotion will also be conducted through various media including health education, local electronic billboards, and the county website.
