Busan Gijang-gun Public Health Center Conducts Survey on Pinworm Infection Among Local Infants and Toddlers
The Busan Gijang-gun Public Health Center will conduct a 'Pinworm Infection Survey' starting in April, targeting approximately 1,600 children aged 6 and under attending local daycare centers and kindergartens.
Pinworm infection causes symptoms such as itching around the anus, which can lead to dermatitis or nocturnal enuresis, and may also induce abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Compared to adults who maintain strict hygiene, young children cannot manage their hygiene independently and lack immunity against reinfection, making repeated infections possible.
Especially with the expansion of institutional childcare, the need for pinworm infection surveys centered on childcare facilities such as daycare centers has emerged as an important issue.
Accordingly, the Gijang-gun Public Health Center surveyed daycare centers and kindergartens in the area last December to identify institutions wishing to participate in the pinworm infection test. About 1,200 children from 26 daycare centers and about 400 children from 3 kindergartens applied.
The test uses pinworm test pin tape. The health center distributes test kits to the participating institutions, collects specimens, and the Korea Association of Health Promotion conducts the tests and notifies the results. For those who test positive for pinworm infection, educational materials will be provided, and guidance on medical treatment will be offered.
