Prosecution Seeks Prison Sentence for Namyang Dairy Founder’s Grandson on 'Marijuana Sale and Possession' Charges
The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for the grandson of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products, who was tried on charges of selling and possessing marijuana.
At the sentencing hearing held on the morning of the 15th at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 27 (Presiding Judge Kim Ok-gon), the prosecutor asked the court to sentence Hong (40) to three years in prison and impose a fine of 41.8 million won.
Hong's side admitted to all charges. Hong's lawyer appealed, saying, "The defendant has confessed to all the charges" and "Considering his active cooperation during the investigation, we ask for a suspended sentence."
In his final statement, Hong pleaded for leniency, saying, "This case being reported in the media has caused an irreparable wound to my daughter," and "Please allow me to return to my child and fulfill my role as a father."
Hong, the grandson of the late Hong Doo-young, honorary chairman and founder of Namyang Dairy Products, was arrested and indicted last October on charges of selling marijuana once and possessing and smoking 62mL of liquid marijuana and 14g of marijuana (violation of the Narcotics Control Act).
