Wildfire 95% Contained Two Days After Fire Outbreak
Soldiers from the Army's 39th Division have been deployed for the second day to extinguish the wildfire in Hapcheon. A fire broke out in a nearby hill in Wolpyeong-ri, Yongju-myeon, Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, and rapidly spread to the surrounding area, but most of the wildfire has been extinguished through firefighting efforts.
According to the Army on the 9th, the 39th Division deployed about 460 soldiers, six helicopters including Chinook and Surion, and 30 pieces of equipment to the fire site, continuing from the previous day.
At around 1:59 PM the previous day, a fire broke out in a nearby hill in Wolpyeong-ri, Yongju-myeon, Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, and quickly spread to the surrounding area, putting 163 hectares under the wildfire's influence. For the first time this year, the 'Wildfire Response Level 3' was issued. As of 8 AM on the 9th, firefighting efforts led by the forestry authorities have extinguished approximately 95% of the fire.

Lieutenant Colonel Park Jong-min, commander of the Hapcheon Battalion of the Army's 39th Division, said, "We will do our utmost to support the local residents so that they do not suffer damage and can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
