Two Construction Union Officials Detained and Sent for Prosecution on Charges of Recruitment and Bribery Demands
Two executives, including the chairman of the Korea Federation of Construction Industry Unions under the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, who are accused of forcing the hiring of union members and demanding money, have been handed over to the prosecution in custody.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 8th that it had sent Chairman Lee and union executive A, who are suspected of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (joint extortion), to the prosecution in custody that morning.
According to the police, they are accused of illegal activities such as forcing the hiring of union members affiliated with them or demanding money from the management at apartment construction sites around Seoul between 2020 and 2022. It is known that they extorted more than 100 million won from construction companies by demanding union full-time fees and other payments.
