Gokseong-gun, Gallery 107 Hosts 'Wangyeol Artist Invitational Exhibition'
Showcasing Over 25 Large-Scale Sumukhwa Color Paintings
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will hold a solo exhibition of Korean painting artist Wang Yeol from the 9th of this month to the 19th of next month at Gallery 107 and Street Gallery 4 buildings.
This exhibition showcases about 25 large ink and color paintings that depict the Seomjin River and the image of the utopia Mureungdowon through the artist's unique poetic sensibility.
The artist metaphorically expresses the various joys and sorrows of human life such as loneliness, companionship, and happiness of people living in the city through the shapes of birds and horses of Mureungdowon. It shows a blend of tradition and modernity based on Eastern spirit.
Artist Wang Yeol said, “I am grateful to the Gokseong-gun officials who invited me. I wanted to consider how to adapt the concept of Eastern spirit to today's era and make it the foundation of my artistic world. I hope that while appreciating the works, the emotional space in the mind will be filled.”
Wang Yeol graduated from Hongik University College of Fine Arts and holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts. He has held 66 solo exhibitions and received awards such as the Dong-A Art Award at the Dong-A Art Festival, the Korean Art Artist Grand Prize, and the Korean Art Critics Association Artist Award. He has also served as a judge for the Korea Art Exhibition and is an active and renowned artist both domestically and internationally, currently working as a professor in the Korean Painting Department at Dankook University.
Gallery 107 in Gokseong-gun is located at 107-1 Jungang-ro, Gokseong-eup. It is open to the public free of charge and operates daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. without closing during the exhibition period.
