"Bathroom Activities Visible Through Window"... Controversy Over Women's Restroom in Suwon
Public Restroom in Building, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si
"Even at 162cm, the Interior is Clearly Visible"
A women's public restroom in a building in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, has been designed and operated so that it is clearly visible from the outside, sparking controversy.
Recently, a post titled "The extremely shocking women's restroom on the 3rd floor of the Geumgok parking lot in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon" was uploaded on an online community.
The author wrote, "I am posting this for public interest. I went to Geumgok for a visit, parked on the 3rd floor of the parking lot, and used the restroom," adding, "To my surprise, the women's restroom (toilet) stalls had windows."
The photos shared show a friend standing outside while the author took pictures from inside looking out. Moreover, there is a photo taken by the author, who is 162 cm tall, standing on tiptoe to look inside. There is not even translucent film attached, so the interior of the restroom is clearly visible.
The author said, "I thought the inside wouldn't be visible from outside, but the toilet stalls in the women's restroom were clearly visible," and attached the photo.

The author explained, "I thought the inside wouldn't be visible from outside, but the toilet stalls in the women's restroom were fully visible," and added, "I checked the men's restroom window next door just in case, and what was visible there was the sink."
They also expressed frustration, saying, "Why is only the women's restroom window designed this way, making all the toilet stalls visible?" and "It was so outrageous that I even recorded a video."
In particular, the author noted that since the building houses several shops, many people are likely to use the restroom.
Netizens commented with various opinions such as, "The public restroom at Gwanggyosan in Suwon has a similar structure, and it's ridiculous to design restrooms like that regardless of gender," and "I think a complaint should be filed with the city."

In response, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety revised and has been enforcing the "Enforcement Decree of the Act on Public Restrooms" since 2018.

According to the decree, when constructing new buildings or remodeling, entrances to public restrooms must be installed so that the interior is not directly visible to people passing through hallways or roads. However, it is known that some men's public restrooms installed in public places such as Hangang Park have yet to be improved.
