Dong-A University Appoints Professors Specialized in Semiconductor and Future Automobile Fields
Dong-A University has recruited Professor Shim Daeyong, former Vice President of SK Hynix, and autonomous driving technology expert Professor Kim Byungcheol as ‘industry-academic full-time faculty members’ to focus on fostering fields such as semiconductors, future automobiles, and AI.
Both professors were hired as ‘industry-academic full-time faculty members,’ one of the university’s innovation initiatives aimed at selecting professors based on industrial capabilities rather than formalities, and began their terms on the 1st of this month.
Professor Shim belongs to the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Professor Kim is affiliated with the Department of Industrial Management Engineering.

Having worked in the semiconductor field for over 28 years, he holds technical achievements such as ▲securing the ISO26262 international certification for vehicle semiconductors, the first in the DRAM memory industry ▲leading the design and business of HBM2 and HBM2E products, key semiconductors for next-generation AI applications ▲leading the development of the world’s first 8Gb mobile LPDDR4 product for smartphones, and was awarded as one of the ‘100 Leading Technology Figures for the Future’ by the National Academy of Engineering of Korea in 2017.
Professor Shim said, “I will promote semiconductor-related research and development projects to strengthen exchanges with companies,” adding, “I will help Dong-A University and Busan grow into a central cluster for vehicle power semiconductors and autonomous driving AI semiconductor industries through training high-level semiconductor personnel with leading experience and know-how in future semiconductors and building infrastructure.”
Professor Kim, a Dong-A University alumnus, has worked as a professor in the Department of Future Automotive Engineering at Hanyang University, carrying out various industry-academic cooperation projects such as ▲technology transfer of functional safety technologies like ILAEAMS and QRT ▲process establishment tasks according to the lifecycle of C-ITS (Cooperative Autonomous Driving) ▲planning projects to secure digital road safety ▲future automobile R&D specialized personnel training projects ▲electric vehicle (EVx) specialized personnel training projects.
He has also conducted automotive functional safety and cybersecurity education at over 300 companies and institutions and participated in government project planning as a planning committee member for new projects in industrial innovation infrastructure (building a verification base for autonomous driving perception and operational safety (SOTIF)), vehicle semiconductor projects (quality and reliability assurance technologies), smart sensor projects, and autonomous driving technology development innovation projects.
