View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated regarding the school violence history of the son of Attorney Jeong Soon-shin, whose appointment as head of the National Investigation Headquarters was canceled, "We verified the reputations of the three candidates but could not find such content (school violence), and we reported the collected information." He made it clear that they were not aware of Attorney Jeong's school violence issue in advance.
At a regular briefing with the press corps on the 6th, Commissioner Yoon said, "The National Police Agency collects data on its own work performance, achievements, and various evaluation results and reports them to the requesting agency."
He added, "We exchange opinions with the Presidential Office regarding procedures and situations," and "officially, the opinion is issued under the commissioner's name."
Regarding the additional recruitment of a new headquarters chief, he said, "There are various possibilities, so it is difficult to definitively confirm and state."
Commissioner Yoon explained that he understands that the School Police Officer (SPO) at the time of Attorney Jeong's school violence case gave an opinion on the decision to transfer the offending student.
Regarding the revision of the prosecution and police investigation guidelines being promoted by the Ministry of Justice, he said, "I understand that our opinions will be sufficiently presented during discussions between the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Justice," and "Basically, within the purpose of the legal amendment, it is expected to be revised in a way that minimizes public inconvenience and enhances investigation-related benefits without undermining it."
Regarding the nationwide joint academic achievement evaluation score leak incident, he said, "There has been no case of the leaker surrendering to the police," and "We are in the process of identifying the culprit through forensic analysis of the education office server, etc."
