Gwangju Seo-gu Selects Yu Hyun-im as MVP Public Official
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 2nd that it selected Yuh Hyunim, an administrative officer from the Education Library who actively promoted proactive administration for the construction of the Seo-bit Maru Library, a district-run library, as the ‘January-February MVP Public Official.’
Officer Yuh demonstrated strong public service capabilities from the overall planning stage to build a resident-friendly district library.

She visited excellent libraries nationwide for benchmarking and gathered opinions on redefining the functions and roles of the district library, program development, and spatial composition through in-depth resident discussions and expert task force meetings, striving to establish a ‘higher-level’ library.
She also succeeded in securing approximately 230 million KRW in national and city funds to establish foundational facilities such as book acquisition costs for the opening.
Leading the expansion of public services through books, Officer Yuh promoted the ‘Shared Bookshelf Reading Store’ project, which allows easy access to books in business establishments as a support measure for small business owners through lifestyle-oriented library services. This project was selected as an excellent case in the policy evaluation by the Presidential Library and Information Policy Committee.
She is also actively contributing to creating an innovative model to realize ‘Seo-gu, a city that reads books closer and anytime.’
The MVP Public Official Selection Committee stated, “Officer Yuh demonstrated very dedicated and sincere public service capabilities in policy development and library opening tasks for the district library, which is about to open,” and “Her proactive efforts to encourage citizen participation and communication were highly evaluated.”
At the MVP Public Official award ceremony on the 2nd, Seo-gu Mayor Kim Ikang emphasized, “Officer Yuh showed firsthand what proactive administration on the ground and working together with residents means,” and “She made great contributions to district development by leading the unity of librarians.”
Officer Yuh said in her acceptance speech, “I will take pride in being an MVP public official and do my best to realize a reading-friendly Seo-gu and provide high-quality services to residents.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu introduced the MVP Public Official system in December last year to invigorate the organization and create a working atmosphere by giving preferential treatment to meritorious public officials who faithfully carry out major district issues and key projects.
Seo-gu selects individual MVPs every two months, providing incentives such as cash rewards and advanced site visits, and selects one ‘MVP of the Year’ from six previously selected individuals every December for an award. MVP teams will also be selected and awarded in June and December.
