Daejeon City Challenges to Attract Semiconductor Specialized Complex
Daejeon City has thrown down the gauntlet to attract a semiconductor specialized complex.
The city announced on the 28th that it submitted an application to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the "National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex Semiconductor Sector Contest."
The designation contest closed the day before, and after evaluation, the complex selection is expected to be completed in the first half of next year.
If designated as a specialized complex, it will receive support such as exemption from preliminary feasibility studies, expedited processing of site permits, various tax credits, and relaxation of factory floor area ratios.
To attract the specialized complex, the city launched the "Semiconductor Industry Promotion Development Council" at the end of last year, involving presidents of 11 local universities, directors of 8 research institutes, and representatives of 9 industrial companies.
Then, this month, 24 institutions including 14 local universities signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation on educational programs for semiconductor talent development and the establishment of education and research infrastructure.
Additionally, agreements were made to establish a joint utilization platform for semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment demonstration support research equipment, laying the groundwork for attracting the specialized complex.
