Payment of 155.3 Billion KRW in COVID-19 Loss Compensation... Partial Revision of Compensation Criteria
The Central Accident Response Headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 28th that it will provide an additional 155.3 billion KRW in COVID-19 loss compensation following the deliberation and resolution of the Loss Compensation Deliberation Committee.
The total loss compensation paid from April 2020 to the present amounts to 8.5464 trillion KRW. Among this, the provisional payment for treatment medical institutions (including settlement amounts) was 8.307 trillion KRW to 601 medical institutions, and closure/business suspension loss compensation was 239.4 billion KRW to 76,130 institutions.
To ensure prompt loss compensation for COVID-19 patient treatment medical institutions such as infectious disease-dedicated hospitals, the government has been paying loss compensation monthly in the form of provisional payments since April 2020, and conducts settlements for the entire loss compensation after the dedicated hospitals are released. Provisional payments mean partially paying an estimated loss amount before the final loss is confirmed.

Additionally, as the COVID-19 outbreak stabilizes and the quarantine environment changes, the government will partially lower and differentiate the compensation multipliers for patient-used beds, effective from the 1st of next month. Specifically, the compensation multipliers for severe patients, which were 7 times (days 1?5 of hospitalization), 5 times (days 6?10), and 3 times (11 days or more), will be changed to 5 times, 4 times, and 3 times, respectively.
