Lee Jae-myung "No Personal Gain Taken... Detention Without Clear Charges, An Unprecedented Situation"
Lee Jae-myung's Personal Remarks
"Prosecutors Deploy 60 Agents for 'Thorough'
'Judicial Hunt' Until Target Is Caught"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 27th, expressed the unfairness of the prosecution's investigation regarding the motion for his arrest, calling it "an unprecedented constitutional crisis attempting to detain the leader of the main opposition party without clear charges," while strongly asserting his innocence and non-guilt.
During a personal statement related to his arrest motion at the National Assembly plenary session that afternoon, Lee said, "The contents of the warrant are truly absurd," and devoted his efforts to systematically refuting the charges presented by the prosecution.
Regarding the Daejang-dong development project, Lee questioned, "They claim it is breach of trust because only 70% of the development profits were recovered, but where did the figure of 70% come from? What crime is it if the development profit recovery is 0%, as in Busan LCT and Yangpyeong Gongheung District?"
He also emphasized concerning the Seongnam FC sponsorship allegations, "Unlike the Mir Foundation, Seongnam FC is a city-run enterprise, so privatization is impossible. Since Seongnam FC is operated with the city budget, if its own revenue increases, tax support decreases, so Seongnam City benefits."
He continued, "No one can gain private profit through Seongnam FC, and in fact, no private profit has been taken," adding, "All Seongnam City administration efforts to attract companies were lawful and legitimate."
Lee criticized the prosecution's biased investigation, saying, "While the '50 Billion Club' is given a free pass and Kim Gun-hee's Deutsche Motors case is not even investigated, the prosecution has deployed 60 prosecutors to catch Lee Jae-myung, thoroughly investigating for a year."
He condemned, "There have been 322 reported searches targeting me alone, averaging one per day since President Yoon Suk-yeol took office," and said, "The investigation is aimed not at the case but at the 'person.' It is a 'judicial hunt' that continues until the target is caught."
Lee stated, "There is no reason for detention such as flight risk or evidence tampering," and criticized, "It is full of absurd logic and political agitation that because I am the leader of the influential main opposition party, I must be detained."
