USGA "First Ever Black President Appointed"
‘Construction Company CEO’ Peopoll Elected as Chairman for a 3-Year Term
The United States Golf Association (USGA) has elected its first Black president in its 129-year history.
On the 26th (Korean time), the USGA announced, "Fred Perpall (USA) has been appointed as the 67th president for a three-year term." This is the first time in the history of the USGA, established in 1894, that a Black person has been elected president. The current president, Stewart Francis (USA), will end his term this February.
President Perpall is originally from the Bahamas. Since 2013, he has served as the CEO of Beck Group, a U.S. construction company. He was nominated as the next USGA president candidate in December last year. In 1994, Perpall also played as a member of the Bahamas national basketball team, and since 2019, he has served as a USGA executive committee member. Perpall played a significant role in establishing the US Adaptive Open golf tournament, which Lee Seung-min won last year.
