Korea GM Begins North American Model Production of Chevrolet 'Trax Crossover' in Changwon
The Chevrolet Trax Crossover, a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) from General Motors (GM), has begun mass production in South Korea.
Korea GM announced on the 26th that it held a mass production ceremony for the North American model of the Chevrolet Trax Crossover at the Changwon plant on the 24th.
The mass production ceremony was held with about 200 executives and employees in attendance, including Roberto Rempel, President of Korea GM; Brian MacMurray, President of the Korea R&D Corporation; and Kim Jun-oh, Branch Chief of the Korean Metal Workers' Union Korea GM Branch. They celebrated the successful mass production of the North American model of the Trax Crossover, achieved through a perfect preparation process at the Changwon plant, which secured world-class productivity and quality competitiveness through large-scale investment.
After the ceremony, President Rempel and other GM leadership toured the production process, emphasizing the importance of flawless manufacturing quality and smooth initial mass production of the new product, while encouraging the hard work of on-site employees.
President Rempel said, "Despite difficult circumstances such as the pandemic over the past few years, I am very pleased that, through excellent teamwork, we have successfully mass-produced the Trax Crossover, a global model and one of GM's main models." He added, "GM will focus on producing flawless vehicles to provide high-performance cars that exceed the expectations of global customers."

He added, "I am confident that the Trax Crossover will become a monumental model that satisfies customers worldwide."
The Trax Crossover is responsible for the crossover segment in GM's global vehicle portfolio. It is a strategic model born from the convergence of GM's global development capabilities, including design, engineering, and production technology. It is a core model for securing competitiveness and sustainability in the Korean business.
Korea GM invested approximately 900 billion KRW in large-scale production facilities at the Changwon plant’s painting, pressing, body, and assembly factories to ensure flawless production quality of the Trax Crossover. As a result, it secured production capacity of 60 units per hour and up to 280,000 units annually. Additionally, to commence mass production, Korea GM reached an agreement with the labor union in April on workforce reallocation and completed the workforce arrangement for two-shift operation by the end of last year through continuous consultations.

With rapidly increasing demand for new products in the North American market, GM plans to actively respond to high overseas market demand by starting preemptive mass production of the North American model and operating at full capacity. The Chevrolet Trax Crossover is also scheduled to be launched in the domestic market within the first quarter under the same name.
