Gyeonggi-do Saves 24.6 Billion KRW in Medical Expenses Through Medical Aid Case Management
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that, as a result of conducting medical aid case management for 5,411 medical aid beneficiaries last year, medical expenses decreased by 24.6 billion KRW and the number of benefit days decreased by approximately 264,000 days compared to 2021.
Gyeonggi Province carries out case management through 102 medical aid managers deployed in the province and its cities and counties to ensure the proper use of the medical aid system by beneficiaries and to stabilize medical aid finances.
Although the government and local governments operate the 'Medical Aid System' to guarantee medical use for low-income and other financially struggling individuals, issues such as excessive prescriptions and duplicate treatments have occurred due to some beneficiaries' lack of understanding of the system.
The province explained that through case management, medical expenses paid to 5,411 people decreased from 78.5 billion KRW in 2021 to 53.9 billion KRW in 2022, a reduction of 24.6 billion KRW. The number of benefit days also decreased from approximately 6,288,000 days in 2021 to about 6,024,000 days in 2022.
Park Geun-tae, Director of the Welfare Project Division of the province, stated, "We will continue to strive for the health management of medical aid beneficiaries and the reduction of medical aid finances."
