Gokseong-gun Joins the "Happy Realization Local Government Council"

Enactment of Happiness Promotion Ordinance and Establishment of Institutional Foundation Planned

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will join the Local Government Council for Happiness Realization to achieve the administration goal of the 8th elected term, "A Happier Gokseong for Residents."

The Local Government Council for Happiness Realization (hereinafter referred to as the Council) is a local government association established to create a happier local community by prioritizing residents' happiness as the top policy goal.

The Council celebrated its 6th anniversary this year since its founding in October 2018.

It promotes various joint projects for happiness policies, including sharing best practices among member local governments, developing happiness indicators, evaluating the impact of happiness policies, and operating happiness policy education and forums.

Starting the 8th elected term, Gokseong-gun judged that discovering and implementing happiness policies tailored to the characteristics of the county is of utmost importance to realize residents' happiness.

Accordingly, the county pursued joining the Council to share policies among local governments aiming to realize the value of "happiness," develop and evaluate happiness indicators, and jointly respond to revisions of happiness-related systems, thereby fostering policy solidarity.

Beginning with this Council membership, Gokseong-gun plans to develop customized happiness indicators suited to the county's circumstances and utilize them in policies.

Additionally, in the first half of the year, the county plans to establish an ordinance to promote residents' happiness, laying the institutional foundation.

In July, coinciding with the first anniversary of the 8th elected term, the county will proclaim a vision for residents' happiness and aim to garner public consensus to create a happy Gokseong.

A county official stated, "Joining the Council will be the starting point for making Gokseong a happy place. Since this year is the inaugural year for creating a happier Gokseong for residents, we will carry out the planned schedule without any gaps."
