Jinju Namaakseowon Deposits Two Artifacts to Jinju City
“Hope to Help in Establishing Jinju History Museum”
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the morning of the 23rd, Jinju City in Gyeongnam held a donation ceremony for Namak Seowon of Jinju and its collected relics at the Entrepreneurs' Room in the city hall.
Namak Seowon, located in Jukgok-ri, Geumgok-myeon, is a seowon rebuilt in 1919 by local Confucian scholars, enshrining the portraits of three figures: Kim Yushin, Seol Chong, and Choi Chiwon.
On this day, Namak Seowon donated the 'Gyeongsangnam-do Tangible Cultural Property Portrait of Kim Yushin' and the 'Gyeongsangnam-do Tangible Cultural Property Portrait of Choi Chiwon' to Jinju City to support the construction of the Jinju History Museum.
The donated portraits of Kim Yushin and Choi Chiwon are works by the painter Chae Yong-shin, who was active from the late Joseon period to the modern era. Recognized for their cultural value, they were designated as Gyeongsangnam-do Tangible Cultural Properties in 2022.
Director Choi of Namak Seowon said, “We decided on this donation to respond to the promotion of donations and lending for the construction of the Jinju History Museum. Although these are precious assets of the seowon, I believed that providing a better preservation environment where more citizens can enjoy them is the way to enhance the value of cultural properties. I hope that these two portraits will be more widely used, preserved longer, and remain in the memories of more people.”
