Yeosu Coast Guard Reports No Casualties in Ship Fire off Geumodo Island
Fire of Unknown Cause Occurs on Fishing Vessel; 3 Crew Members Safe
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Je-su) announced on the 23rd that "a fire broke out on a 9-ton fishing vessel off Geumo-do, Yeosu, but the three crew members transferred to another vessel, and no casualties occurred."
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at 7:01 a.m. on the same day, a fire broke out on a 9-ton coastal composite fishing vessel A (registered in Yeosu, with 3 crew members) about 2 km east of Geumo-do, Yeosu, and the incident was reported via the vessel's VHF-DSC (Very High Frequency Digital Selective Calling) communication device.
After receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched nearby patrol vessels and rescue teams, and before the patrol vessels arrived, all three crew members of vessel A had already transferred to another ship and were safe.
Currently, vessel A is emitting flames and heavy smoke from the exterior of the hull, and six patrol vessels have been mobilized to suppress the fire using firefighting equipment.
