Ulsan Office of Education Launches Full-Scale Operation of Climate Crisis Response Education Center
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will officially operate the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center starting from the new semester in March.
The Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center is a regional environmental education center preparing for the climate crisis caused by global warming.
The center, located on the site of the old Daesong Campground in Ganjeolgot, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City, covers a land area of 6,619㎡ and a total building area of 1,059.56㎡, consisting of a main building, annex, and corridor. The total project cost is 6 billion KRW.
The main building houses an exhibition experience hall, environmental practice hall, environmental library, and offices. The annex includes an environmental cooking room, environmental laboratory, and environmental discussion room. Outdoors (including the rooftop), there are water spaces (water experience), a courtyard (grass yard), an ecological forest experience area, an ecological garden, and a solar power experience site.
The programs include 15 regular programs such as the exhibition experience hall, 5 special programs such as exhibitions, 2 training programs, and 5 event programs including the carbon-neutral environment festival.
From Tuesday to Friday, the center operates for elementary, middle, and high school students, and on Saturdays and Sundays, it is open to the general public. Admission is limited to about 150 people per day, and up to six 45-seat charter buses are supported daily. On weekdays, the experience and educational activities are free of charge, while some programs on weekends require a fee.
Schools can apply for up to six classes or about 150 students per day up to one month before the experience, and individuals can apply from two weeks before the experience until 24:00 on the day before. However, paid programs can be canceled up to two days before the experience. Applications can be made through the center’s website.
Before the opening of the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center in March, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education operated a pre-experience group for two days from the 21st to the 22nd.
The pre-experience group was announced on the city education office and each school’s website, recruiting 104 participants applying as family units.
During the pre-experience period, five environmental education programs themed on climate crisis response?‘Climate Cooking’, ‘Five Senses Satisfaction! Nature Playground’, ‘Dispatch! Earth Guard’, ‘Little Farmer School’, and ‘Upcycling Workshop’?were operated, conducting 90-minute family group classes combining theory and experience.

An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education said, “Through this pre-experience group operation, we reviewed and supplemented the main programs of the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center,” adding, “We will continue to strive so that students and citizens can pay more attention to the worsening climate environment issues and learn ways to solve them together.”
