Sinan-gun, Ministry of Environment Grants Final 'Approval' for Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan
Resolving Water Shortage Issues Through Metropolitan Water Supply Provision
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) recently received final approval from the Ministry of Environment for a partial amendment to the Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan.
With this, Sinan-gun has laid the foundation to promote a wide-area water supply system, emergency water supply system, and village water supply maintenance projects to solve the chronic drinking water shortage problem in all areas of Sinan-gun (except Heuksan area).

According to the county on the 22nd, in response to the opening of Cheonsa Bridge (April 2019), Imja Bridge (March 2021), the increase in tourists due to the selection of Purple Island as the best tourist village, and the rise in living standards, the county predicted the local water demand and established a Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan (amendment) to supply high-quality tap water through systematic expansion and maintenance of water facilities.
Go Ji-ho, head of the Water and Sewage Business Office, stated, “The amended Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan prepares for the rapidly increasing water demand and establishes an emergency connection pipeline between the wide-area water supply and local water supply systems.” He added, “We have established a mid- to long-term plan for water facilities by introducing the necessary infrastructure for future water treatment plant expansions, including small-scale water supply facility improvements and village water supply maintenance.”
The approved amendment to the Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan includes a budget of 194.8 billion KRW, covering the supply of wide-area water to the central region (Amtae, Jaeun, Anjwa, Palgeum) and installation of an emergency connection pipeline to Jangsan Island by 2025, as well as plans to install emergency connection pipelines to Bigeum and Dochodo by 2030.
Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “More than 1.7 million tourists visited Sinan last year, and the number of tourists is expected to increase every year.” He added, “We will steadily promote the wide-area water supply project through the established Basic Water Supply Maintenance Plan to ensure that visitors and residents of Sinan can receive a stable supply of domestic water.”

He also added, “We will actively respond to severe droughts and climate change by promoting large-scale seawater desalination projects utilizing renewable energy such as wind and solar power.”
