‘2023 Korea Theater Festival’ Seoul Competition Opens Next Month

8 Performances of Original Plays by Excellent Theater Groups in Seoul Area

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Eight outstanding original plays from theater companies in the Seoul area will be presented to audiences.

The Seoul Theater Association will hold the '2023 Korea Theater Festival Seoul Competition' from July 9 to 22 at the Naru Arts Center Grand Theater in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and the Guro Art Valley Arts Theater in Guro-gu.

The Seoul Theater Association announced on the 20th that the '2023 Korea Theater Festival Seoul Competition' will be held from July 9 to 22 at the Naru Art Center Grand Theater in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and the Guro Art Valley Arts Theater in Guro-gu.

The Korea Theater Festival was created to promote local theater creation and was first held in 1983 under the name National Local Theater Festival. It was held in a competition format in 15 regions nationwide excluding Seoul, and since 2016, the name was changed to Korea Theater Festival, and the Seoul competition was also established.

The festival selects representative plays from each region, including Seoul, through regional competitions. The selected works advance to the Korea Theater Festival finals to compete for awards.

This Seoul competition will feature eight plays selected through the first round of judging.

The play "When Cherry Blossoms Fall" by Theater Company Haebandre will premiere on the 9th at the Naru Art Center, followed by "Our Town" by Creative Community Arke (11th), "Guerrilla Theater" by Myeongpum Theater Company (12th), "Red Orgel" by Theater Company Noeul (15th), "Baesogoji Story" by Production IDA (16th), "Old Tree" by Theater Company Mago (18th), "The Child Delivering the Letter" by H Project (19th), and "Rollocoster" by White Cat Theater Company (22nd), meeting with audiences.
