Police Send Kim Bong-hyun, Who Cut Off Electronic Bracelet, to Prosecutors on Charges of Damaging Public Property
Suspected Damage to Public Property, Transferred to Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] It has been confirmed that the police have concluded the case of former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bong-hyun damaging his electronic ankle bracelet and have handed it over to the prosecution.
According to a comprehensive report from Asia Economy on the 15th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent former Chairman Kim to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office on charges of damaging public property on the 25th of last month.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice's Seoul Probation Office requested an investigation by the police on suspicion that former Chairman Kim damaged the electronic device, which is public property, immediately after cutting off his electronic ankle bracelet.
Former Chairman Kim cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and fled near Paldang Bridge in Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, just before his trial in November last year, but was caught 48 days later in an apartment in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. He is on trial for embezzling 130 billion won from Star Mobility and Suwon Passenger, which were invested in by Lime Asset Management between 2018 and 2020, and for providing money and gifts to political circles.

Meanwhile, on the 9th, the Seoul Southern District Court sentenced former Chairman Kim, who was tried on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement), to 30 years in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of 76,935,400,000 won.
