Voice Phishing Joint Task Force, 30s Call Center Employee Who Fled to China Indicted and Detained
Fraud of 130 Million Won from 15 Victims
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The government joint investigation team for voice phishing crimes announced on the 14th that they arrested and indicted Mr. A, a man in his 30s who worked at a voice phishing call center and had fled to China, yesterday.
Mr. A is accused of impersonating a prosecutor and defrauding 15 victims of 130 million won from January to December 2018 before fleeing to China.
While investigating accomplice Mr. B, the joint investigation team identified Mr. A's location in China and requested extradition through the International Cooperation Office of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. With the cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, Mr. A voluntarily returned to Korea on January 19 of this year.

The joint investigation team stated, "We will do our best to apprehend voice phishing criminals who have fled overseas and repatriate them to Korea through close international cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security."
