Baegun Square Transformed by Light and Color... Media Wall Activation Countdown
Gwangju Nam-gu to Open Media Wall on the 15th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The media wall installed at the main entrance of the Nam-gu Office building in Gwangju Metropolitan City will open at 6 p.m. on the 15th and will present a festival of light and color around Baegun Square.
In particular, Baegun Square will offer various visual attractions through the media wall, including immersive content such as the 3D-rendered Baegun Tiger and media art, while also sharing neighborhood news and district administration information in real time, expected to become a digital emotional hotspot centered on people and culture.
The media wall, measuring 42 meters wide and 9 meters high, will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in 40-minute intervals until the end of March, and from April, it will repeat playback every hour, including public service advertisements.
The main programming consists of 5 minutes of immersive content including the Baegun Tiger, 10 minutes of news about Nam-gu district administration, 25 minutes of family video letters conveying messages usually left unsaid to family members, and 20 minutes of public service advertisements.
Nam-gu plans to operate flexibly depending on the public service advertisements and content.
The greatest focus of the media wall operation is on the 5-minute immersive content featuring the Baegun Tiger, which implements a sense of depth and dynamic movement using the anamorphic illusion art technique.
There are three immersive content pieces being introduced this time.
They are the Baegun Clock Tower (2 minutes 30 seconds), which announces the current time on the hour; the Baegun Tiger (1 minute 30 seconds), which runs through the city and settles in Baegun Square; and the Ginkgo Tree in Chilsuk-dong (1 minute 20 seconds), which changes with the seasons throughout the year.
Nam-gu plans to start with displaying the Baegun Clock Tower content, then deliver key district administration information, followed by the Baegun Tiger roaring powerfully with a growl in succession.
After the family video letter program ends, the media wall will immediately show the Ginkgo Tree content in Chilsuk-dong, presenting the current weather and temperature with a seasonal feel, followed by public service advertisements.
Several media art pieces are also attractions.
‘Gift of Light,’ featuring a little penguin roaming around delivering dreams and hopes; ‘Symphony of Light,’ which envelops the entire Baegun Square with light and waves accompanied by lively music; and works expressing major landmarks such as Yangnim Hill, Pureun-gil, Sajik Park, and Geumdangsan Sunrise through light art can be viewed intermittently.
Additionally, there are diverse media art works that captivate the attention of Gwangju citizens, such as ‘Plaza of Light,’ which takes viewers on a journey on a train departing from the Nam-gu Office north caf?, and ‘Nam-gu Dragon,’ a dragon holding a yeoju (a mythical orb) flying around the Nam-gu Office building scattering light as it ascends.
