Changwon Mayor Hong Nampyo: "We Will Supply Citizens with High-Quality Tap Water"
On-site Inspection Conducted to Obtain International Certification for Changwon Tap Water
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted an on-site inspection on the acquisition of ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System) certification at Seokdong Water Purification Plant on the 3rd.
ISO 22000 is an international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for Food Safety Management Systems. It is an international standard that regulates the effective management of hazards that may occur at each stage of food raw material production, manufacturing, processing, preservation, and distribution.
The city started a service for acquiring ISO 22000 certification for Daesan, Buk-myeon, and Seokdong Water Purification Plants in November last year to supply clean and high-quality tap water to citizens. The goal is to obtain ISO 22000 international certification by April. Chilseo Water Purification Plant is aiming to acquire certification by June.

View original imageThrough this on-site inspection, Mayor Hong checked the current status of improvements to the water purification facilities required for obtaining ISO 22000 certification and the future facility improvement plans.
To improve the water purification process facilities, the city plans to invest a total project cost of 5.7 billion KRW in Seokdong Water Purification Plant to carry out projects such as ▲improvement of insect-proof and sanitary facilities from the intake well to the water purification reservoir ▲improvement of rapid and activated carbon filtration facilities ▲establishment of a small organism response system ▲technical diagnosis of ozone facilities ▲improvement of backwash water supply facilities for filters ▲expansion of discharge water treatment facilities for recovery tanks.

Mayor Hong said, “We have been promoting the acquisition of ISO 22000 international certification since November last year to manage the tap water supplied to citizens at a food-grade level and provide it to each household,” adding, “We will obtain ISO 22000 international certification by April to meet citizens’ expectations for the supply of clean and safe tap water.”
