14.3% Decrease in Drunk Driving Accidents in Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] It has been revealed that drunk driving accidents during the year-end and New Year holidays have decreased in Gwangju.
The Gwangju Police Agency conducted intensive crackdowns on drunk driving for seven weeks from December 19 last year to January 31 this year.
During this proactive prevention period, drunk driving accidents decreased by 14.3%, from 49 cases to 42 cases compared to the same period last year.
The number of injuries decreased by 14.6%, from 82 to 70.
The number of drunk driving crackdowns increased by 18.8%, from 404 to 480 cases, and two rounds of hangover drunk driving crackdowns resulted in six suspensions.
The police plan to extend the crackdown period by one more month in February, as fatal drunk driving accidents tend to occur starting from January to February every year.
