Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at Military Manpower Administration and Seocho District Office Related to 'Military Service Corruption'
Actor Song Deok-ho from D·P suspected of evading military service by feigning epilepsy
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The prosecution, investigating military service evasion through brokers, conducted raids on three locations including the Military Manpower Administration.
The Joint Investigation Team on Military Service Corruption at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 31st that they conducted raids on the Military Manpower Administration and Seocho District Office the previous day to secure evidence related to military service evasion.
The investigation team uncovered circumstances where actor Song Deok-ho (30), who appeared in the drama D.P.?which candidly depicts abuse and harsh treatment in the military?and director Lee Chang-dong’s film Burning, pretended to be an epilepsy patient to receive military service reduction.
The team is investigating after finding clues that Song colluded with military service broker Gu (47, detained and indicted) to feign epilepsy and obtain a reduction in military service. The prosecution believes that Song received military service consultation through Gu’s blog, fabricated epilepsy symptoms as instructed, and submitted false medical certificates to be classified as a Grade 4 social service agent, and plans to summon him for questioning soon.
