Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Wins 'Prime Minister's Award' for AI Fine Dust Monitoring Network
The First Correction Model Utilizing Artificial Intelligence by a Local Government
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Research announced on the 30th that it received the 'Prime Minister's Award' by presenting the case of 'Establishment of Seoul-type Fine Dust Simple Measurement Network Using Artificial Intelligence' for the first time among local governments at the 27th Local Government Information and Communication Best Practice Presentation Contest held from December 5 to 6 last year.
The existing fine dust simple measuring instruments using the light scattering method are cheaper and capable of real-time measurement compared to the beta-ray method measuring instruments installed in the urban air monitoring network. However, there is a problem of reduced measurement accuracy due to installation environments vulnerable to direct exposure to sunlight, temperature control, and humidity control.
To solve these problems, the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Research applied a correction model introduced with artificial intelligence (AI), a core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution era, significantly improving measurement accuracy.
Through the operation of the fine dust simple measurement network using artificial intelligence, the institute expects to contribute to protecting citizens' health by continuously monitoring fine dust concentrations generated from emission sources, reducing fine dust, and providing accurate real-time fine dust information to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
