This measure aims to move away from the focus on protecting major cultural properties and extend protection, management, and utilization to non-designated cultural heritage and historical cultural resources. This year and next, non-designated cultural heritage in Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeju, Jeonbuk, Daejeon, and Sejong will be surveyed to secure approximately 60,000 future historical and cultural resources. Over the past three years, the Cultural Heritage Administration has examined 44,500 non-designated cultural heritage items in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Gangwon, Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, and Chungcheong. Most of these are buildings or historical sites at high risk of damage or loss. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "Once the survey is completed, we plan to establish an integrated database managed by local governments and prepare the necessary legal grounds."
