[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] Park Byeonghwa, who was imprisoned for serial sexual assaults and recently released, was found after attempting an extreme act and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency on the 23rd, Park Byeonghwa was found collapsed at his home around 12:30 PM that day. A probation officer visiting his residence suspected an extreme act and reported it to the police, leading to his discovery. He was transported to a hospital and is receiving treatment. His life is not in danger, and it is reported that he overdosed on antidepressants.
A police official stated, "Currently, Park Byeonghwa is conscious and able to communicate, and there are no major abnormalities."
Park Byeonghwa was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting ten women in their twenties by breaking into villas in Gwonseon-gu and Yeongtong-gu, Suwon City, from December 2002 to October 2007. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and served his term before being released in full in October.
After his release, he moved into a one-room apartment near a university in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, and is known not to have engaged in any significant social activities. Recently, it was confirmed that he applied for basic living subsidies due to financial difficulties.
