Gmarket announced on the 20th that it will "actively compensate for damages as soon as the investigation of the incident is completed" regarding the theft of online gift certificates and other damages.
In a press release on the same day, Gmarket stated, "There have been cases where some customers used electronic cultural gift certificates purchased through IDs and passwords stolen from outside."
Gmarket said, "Upon recognizing the incident, we immediately strengthened the identity verification process to prevent further damage and are responding transparently to the incident in cooperation with the cyber investigation unit," adding, "We plan to actively compensate for damages once the investigation is completed."

Gmarket also acknowledged, "We recognized the issue where the PIN numbers of cultural gift certificates were visible on the website due to this incident. We plan to implement technical improvements such as strengthening the identity verification process when purchasing electronic cultural gift certificates," and stated, "We will do our best to ensure that customers' personal information and assets are protected under any circumstances."
