Gochang-gun Promotes 'Filial Piety Practice Local Tax Payment Assistance Campaign'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] On the 19th, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced that it will promote the ‘Filial Duty Practice Local Tax Payment on Behalf Movement,’ where children visiting their hometown automatically pay the local taxes of their elderly parents through automatic transfer.

Before the Lunar New Year holiday, the county produced 20,000 automatic transfer application forms and information leaflets and delivered them individually to households of local taxpayers aged 65 or older.

Elderly parents often do not properly use the convenience system for local tax payment and receive local tax payment notices to pay directly. Cases of paying a 3% surcharge due to long-term absence or loss of the notice are frequently occurring.

Once the automatic transfer system is established, the inconvenience of parents with mobility difficulties having to visit utility payment agencies will be resolved, and it is expected to greatly help prevent local tax arrears along with the effect of external fund inflow.

Also, if you apply for automatic transfer, you can receive a benefit of a 300 KRW deduction per bill.

The local taxes eligible for automatic transfer include regularly paid resident tax, property tax, automobile tax, and registration license tax, and applications can be made at nearby financial institutions, the county office’s finance department, or the eup/myeon offices.

Ki Ho-min, head of the finance department, said, “We hope that applying for automatic transfer to pay parents’ local taxes will be a small opportunity to practice filial duty by receiving deduction benefits and preventing additional surcharge burdens,” and added, “We will continue to promote good policies to make Gochang a place full of affection and love.”
