Gyeonggi-do Fire Department Supplies Customized Fire Extinguishers and Firefighting Equipment for Elderly Living Alone and Others
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province Fire Department is launching a tailored distribution of fire extinguishers and firefighting facilities for specific groups such as elderly living alone, disabled persons, and dual-income families.
The Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 18th that it plans to distribute and install fire extinguishers and residential fire alarms for 34,000 households targeted for residential firefighting facility installation this year. The related budget for this year is 1.94 billion KRW.
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to focus on distributing customized fire extinguishers to vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, disabled persons, and dual-income families this year. Instead of the previously distributed 3.3 kg fire extinguishers, these vulnerable groups will receive spray-type simple fire extinguishing tools or relatively lighter 2.5 kg fire extinguishers.
To this end, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters will purchase 5,000 spray-type simple fire extinguishing tools (over 300 mm) and 6,000 units of 2.5 kg fire extinguishers in the first phase this year.
Cho Sun-ho, head of the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, "Based on field assessments that the commonly used 3.3 kg fire extinguishers are heavy and difficult for elderly, disabled, and children to use, we decided to promote the distribution of relatively lighter or easier-to-use spray-type fire extinguishers," adding, "We will pay more careful attention to what vulnerable groups need to ensure their safety."
