CU, Cash Recharge Service 'Popular'... "Perfect for Sebaetdon App"
Usage Count Increased by 437.1% Compared to the First Month
CU announced on the 18th that its cash charging service is gaining great popularity among teenagers.
The cash charging service is a prepaid e-wallet system where customers pay cash at CU and load an amount that can be used via card or barcode. Since charging is done through a mobile application (app) barcode, anyone with a smartphone can use it.
CU currently operates five types of cash charging services: SEND, Naver Pay, KB Kookmin Liiv Next, Shinhan Zepeto Card, and Toss Money. In particular, targeting Generation Z, the Shinhan Zepeto Card (for ages 14 and above), operated exclusively, issues an app card designed as the customer's avatar. KB Kookmin Liiv Next (ages 14?18) and Toss Money (ages 7?19) offer physical cards exclusively for teenagers, expanding offline usage locations and receiving positive responses.
According to CU, the total number of transactions using these services last month surged by 437.1% compared to the first month of implementation in August last year. The Toss Money charging service, which expanded the eligible age to 7 years old, increased 14-fold within six months of its launch last month. In September last year, which included the Chuseok holiday, the number of transactions increased by 48.4% compared to the previous month. It is analyzed that teenagers used the service conveniently to spend the allowance they received during the holiday period.
