Seoul City: "Check Garbage Collection Days by District During Seollal Holiday"
Major Downtown Areas and Alleyways Thoroughly Cleaned Before and After the Holiday
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 17th that it will implement a comprehensive cleaning plan to ensure citizens can spend the Lunar New Year holiday in a pleasant environment.
Before the Lunar New Year holiday, a citywide thorough cleaning of downtown areas will be conducted, and during the holiday, the city and district cleaning control rooms and patrol task forces will operate to focus on managing cleaning-vulnerable areas such as densely populated places. During this period, garbage collection days vary by district and neighborhood, so citizens should be careful when disposing of waste.
From the 18th to the 20th, before the holiday, citizens can dispose of household waste as usual. Seoul will provide advance notice of garbage collection days and methods by district during the holiday period through district websites, local media, and social networking services (SNS). When citizens dispose of household waste before the holiday, all collected waste will be transported to waste processing facilities such as resource recovery facilities and the Sudokwon Landfill Site for proper disposal.
During the holiday, the days when waste can be brought to Seoul’s resource recovery facilities and the Sudokwon Landfill Site, as well as the days when district environmental officers are off, vary by district. In particular, in Eunpyeong-gu and Guro-gu, household waste collection days differ by neighborhood, so citizens should check the district websites for garbage collection days during the holiday period. For cleaning-related complaints during the holiday, citizens can contact the respective district’s ‘Cleaning Control Room’ or call 120 (Dasan Call Center).
During the holiday period, Seoul will operate a total of 26 cleaning control rooms in the city and districts, and 377 cleaning patrol task force members will promptly respond to cleaning complaints and other citizen inconveniences. The ‘Cleaning Patrol Task Force’ will focus on managing vulnerable areas daily to prevent citizen inconvenience caused by garbage accumulation in major downtown areas and along streets.
Starting from the 25th, after the holiday ends, each district will mobilize all cleaning personnel and equipment to collectively collect and process the accumulated waste during the holiday period.
