Jeongeup-si to Provide 'Childcare Allowance' for Infants and Toddlers... 100,000 Won Per Person

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, will provide childcare allowances to overcome low birth rates and alleviate childcare burdens.

The city announced on the 13th that it will provide a monthly childcare allowance of 100,000 KRW to parents raising children aged 0 to 59 months, regardless of income, property, or number of children, to reduce the childcare cost burden for families with infants needing care.

This allowance will be paid on the 25th of each month in local currency (Jeongeup Sarang gift certificates), and support can be received for up to 60 months, totaling up to 6 million KRW.

The support target is the legal guardians of children born from February 2018 to January 2023, based on the status as of January this year.

The eligibility criteria require residence in Jeongeup City for at least six months as of the child's birth date. For children who have moved in, applications can be made from the date when the legal guardian's resident registration has been in Jeongeup for more than six months, based on the move-in date.

The city will operate a concentrated application period from the 16th to the 27th and will accept applications on an ongoing basis thereafter.

Applications can be made by visiting the town or township office or the community service center at the resident registration address with an ID card, one copy of the application form, and one copy of the resident registration certificate.

The city expects this to be a significant and practical help for beneficiaries, considering the high costs incurred in the early stages of child-rearing.

Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “Through Jeongeup City's childcare allowance, we will minimize the childcare burden necessary for child growth,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a city good for raising children and a happy city where families are together.”
