Chinese Travelers Go to Hong Kong to Get Vaccinated
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] With the border between Hong Kong and China reopening after three years, Chinese nationals are flocking to Hong Kong to receive vaccinations.
On the 12th, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Chinese travelers are rushing to Hong Kong to get the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. On the 8th, Hong Kong and China resumed quarantine-free travel for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic.
SCMP stated, "This week, long lines of Chinese nationals waiting to receive messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines formed in front of hospitals in Hong Kong," adding, "They said the cost of vaccination was not an issue."
A representative from CHKMED hospital in Tsim Sha Tsui told SCMP, "After the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), when people travel to meet their families, vaccine demand will increase," and predicted, "After the Spring Festival, 200 to 300 people from China will visit our hospital daily to receive mRNA vaccines."
