Gwangju Buk-gu Achieves Top Honor as Best Institution in 'Cancer Management Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 10th that it was selected as the best institution in the ‘2022 National Cancer Management Project Best Practice Evaluation’ jointly hosted by Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeonnam Province and organized by the Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Cancer Center.
This evaluation was conducted to discover and share excellent cases of local governments’ national cancer management projects and to seek the direction of next year’s projects based on them.
Among 27 cities, counties, and districts in Gwangju and Jeonnam, the overall project including national cancer management plans, execution, and results was reviewed, and one best institution was selected each from Gwangju and Jeonnam.
Accordingly, the ‘Know Yourself to Win Every Battle with National Cancer Screening’ project submitted by Buk-gu was selected as the best case in Gwangju.
Buk-gu received high evaluation for its efforts to improve the national cancer screening rate through various campaigns, video promotions in multi-use facilities, installation of LED logo projectors, and individual postal encouragement for medical aid recipients who missed screenings.
In particular, it was evaluated that early cancer detection and treatment accessibility were enhanced through active management of suspected cancer patients and cancer patients, including support for detailed examination fees and medical expenses.
Moon In, head of Buk-gu Office, said, “This award is the result of the relentless efforts of related officials to protect residents’ health from cancer,” and added, “We will continue to solidly promote the national cancer management project to improve the health and quality of life of local residents.”
