Appointment of New Members to the Korea Arts and Culture Committee

On the 10th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the appointment of nine new members to the 8th term of the Korea Arts Council. Their term lasts for three years, until January 2026. The new members include Kim Mira, CEO of IAN P&K; Lee Hoon-kyung, director of the theater company Jejabaekga; Seo Seung-mi, professor of music education at Gyeongin National University of Education; Kim Jin-gak, professor of cultural arts management at Sungshin Women's University; Bae Eun-joo, executive director of the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled in Culture and Arts; Jang Mi-jin, writer; Jeong Gap-young, president of the Korean Humanities and Social Sciences Association; Jeong Byeong-guk, senior researcher at Seoul National University Institute for Unification and Peace; and Hong Seong-tae, professor emeritus at Hanyang University. The Ministry explained that appointments were made considering their field experience and expertise in theater, traditional arts, fine arts, and general culture, as well as their understanding of cultural arts policies and communication skills. They also took into account expertise related to disabled artists and regional culture. These new members will work alongside three currently active members. The chairperson is elected by mutual vote among the members in accordance with the Cultural Arts Promotion Act revised in June 2020.
