Former Lawmaker Kim Young-woo of the 'Pro-Lee' Faction Appointed as Election Committee Chairperson
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, will officially announce his candidacy for party leader on the 9th. Former lawmaker Kim Young-woo, a member of the 'Pro-Lee faction' (supporters of former President Lee Myung-bak), will serve as Ahn's election campaign committee chairman.
On the 8th, Ahn's side announced the lineup for the party leader primary campaign and the schedule for the candidacy announcement.
On the morning of the 9th, Ahn will officially announce his candidacy at the National Assembly Communication Office, then stop by the party headquarters before moving to Changwon to attend the Gyeongnam Provincial Party New Year's meeting. He will then meet with party members from the Changwon-Jinhae district.
Kim, appointed as the campaign committee chairman, is a three-term former lawmaker who assisted former President Lee.
The general headquarters chief will be Kim Do-sik, former Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul. Kim is considered one of Ahn's closest aides.
