Korea Customs Service Provides 'Special Support' Including Fast Customs Clearance During Seollal Holiday
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Customs Service will provide special support for expedited customs clearance during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
The Korea Customs Service announced on the 6th that it will implement these special support measures from the 21st to the 24th.
The support measures focus on facilitating expedited customs clearance and timely shipment of export cargo for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products used for ancestral rites, urgent raw materials, and overseas direct purchase express shipments, as well as ensuring rapid customs refunds.
As part of the support measures, the Korea Customs Service will operate a "24-hour Special Customs Clearance Support Team" at 34 customs offices nationwide from the 9th to the 27th.
The support team will operate during holidays and nighttime to help ensure smooth domestic supply of ancestral rite items and urgent raw materials.
Through the operation of the support team, the Korea Customs Service will immediately process requests for extension of shipment periods for export cargo to prevent fines caused by shipments not being made during the holiday period.
Additionally, in preparation for the concentrated import of overseas direct purchase items such as holiday gifts, special customs clearance support teams and emergency standby squads will be organized and activated at customs offices including Incheon and Pyeongtaek to support expedited customs clearance of express shipments.
The special customs refund support will be implemented from the 13th to the 26th. During this period, the Korea Customs Service will set the principle of same-day payment of refund amounts upon export companies’ refund applications, and for applications submitted after the bank closing time (4 PM), refunds will be processed by the next morning.
Furthermore, the Korea Customs Service explained that it will minimize customs requests for document submissions for refund reviews, and even if related documents are required, refunds will be paid first and reviews will be conducted after the holiday period (after the 27th), thereby reducing the burden on companies.
