'Samsung C&T Employee Faces Detention Decision in Gageodo Breakwater Project...Warrant Hearing Today'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The decision on whether to detain former and current employees of Samsung C&T who embezzled 10 billion KRW by inflating construction costs in the 'Gageodo Breakwater Project' will be made on the 6th.
On the morning of the same day, Kwon Giman, the warrant judge at the Seoul Southern District Court, will conduct a detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for two former and current Samsung C&T employees and one design supervisor. The detention decision is expected to be made late at night.
They are accused of embezzling about 10 billion KRW by inflating the construction budget during the construction process of the breakwater project around Gageodo, Jeonnam, commissioned by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2013 to prevent typhoon damage.

Earlier, in August 2020, the Korea Coast Guard referred five Samsung C&T employees and others to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office on charges of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
