"Don't Panic During Tunnel Fires" ... Changwon Seongsan Fire Station Provides Crisis Response Guide
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Song Jong-gu] The Seongsan Fire Station in Changwon, Gyeongnam, has provided guidelines for drivers to remain calm and respond appropriately in the event of a fire inside a tunnel where visibility is limited.
Due to the enclosed structure of tunnels, fire suppression and rescue operations are quite difficult, and smoke or toxic gases are hard to vent outside the tunnel. This not only makes the fire itself dangerous but can also lead to secondary traffic accidents, so extra caution is required.
If a fire breaks out in a vehicle while passing through a tunnel, first turn on the hazard lights, pull over to the roadside or emergency parking area, turn off the engine, and press the emergency bell to alert others of the fire.
Additionally, use a fire extinguisher or fire hydrant to attempt initial firefighting. If initial suppression is not possible, quickly evacuate outside the tunnel by following the emergency lights to avoid the fire smoke.
