Pernod Ricard's 'Absolut Vodka' Produces Low-Carbon Glass Bottles
Transition to 'Sustainable Low-Carbon Bottles' Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Pernod Ricard Group announced on the 3rd that its premium vodka, "Absolut Vodka," will be the first in the liquor industry to convert the glass furnace used for bottle production to hydrogen energy-based, producing low-carbon glass bottles.
Absolut Company has partnered with Arda Glass Packaging, a specialized manufacturer of glass and metal packaging, to transition to a partially hydrogen energy combustion glass furnace and plans to mass-produce Absolut Vodka glass bottles.
Absolut Company explained that by switching from a fossil fuel-based to a hydrogen energy-based glass furnace, it is taking a step closer to its goal of contributing to carbon neutrality by 2030. The hydrogen used in the production process is produced through a green hydrogen production method with zero greenhouse gas emissions, using renewable energy electricity generated at Arda Glass Packaging’s factory.
Through this collaboration, Absolut Company expects to reduce the carbon footprint generated during the bottle production process of Absolut Vodka sold worldwide by up to 20%. Absolut Company plans to switch to low-carbon glass bottles for Absolut Vodka starting in the second half of this year.
