[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Jeong Il-moon, CEO of Korea Investment & Securities, pledged to make this year a period of building a sustainable business model and laying the foundation for future growth.
In his New Year's address on the 2nd, CEO Jeong said, "It was a difficult year due to the contraction of the real economy, depletion of capital market liquidity, and worsening investment sentiment," adding, "The market was challenging at every moment and always presented demanding tasks."
He continued, "The essence of the securities business inevitably involves risk," and added, "Creating value is the reward for taking on risk." He emphasized, "Only by managing risk practically and systematically can we operate a stable business."
He urged each business division to establish a risk management culture and system so that risk management capabilities can be established as a core competitive strength of Korea Investment & Securities.
CEO Jeong also stated, "We must establish a stable profit base that is unwavering amid market changes," explaining, "We need to diversify revenue sources through a variety of business portfolios and continuously discover new businesses." He stressed the importance of expanding overseas operations and ordered all business divisions to create new overseas revenue sources.
He also highlighted the importance of establishing an organizational culture based on digital transformation and fairness. He said, "Systematic preparation for digital transformation is directly linked to our survival," and added, "It is necessary to build an organizational system capable of fast and accurate decision-making based on data."
Furthermore, he said, "Financial institutions, where trust is life, have learned from external cases that when they lose sight of ethical business practices, the entire company suffers devastating consequences due to illegal acts by a small minority," adding, "Even in difficult environments, I expect dynamism characterized by pride in being the best and a commitment to ethical conduct through continuous reflection and effort."
