Samsung Electronics Recruits Vice President Ilhwan Lee, Former Mercedes-Benz Designer
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Samsung Electronics announced on the 30th that it has appointed Ilhwan Lee (Herbert Lee), a former Mercedes-Benz designer, as the head of the Mobile Division (MX) design team.
Samsung Electronics expressed expectations that "Vice President Lee will contribute to Samsung with over 20 years of design and leadership experience gained while working as Chief Design Officer (CDO) at Mercedes-Benz China and other roles."
Vice President Lee is a Korean-American known as the first Asian designer at Mercedes-Benz. He participated in the design of models such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the Mercedes-Benz design teams in the United States and China, receiving numerous global design awards.
He will be responsible for the design of smartphones such as the Galaxy S and Z series, as well as the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Watch. It is expected that his designs will be applied starting with the foldable phone to be released in the second half of the year, rather than the imminent Galaxy S23 launch.

Vice President Lee said, “Samsung Electronics has created the most beautiful products in the world with designs that have transformed the mobile industry,” adding, “We will create new mobile experiences through design.”
