KEPCO and Gas Corporation Urged for 'Strong Self-Help Efforts'
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo stated on the 30th, "Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Gas Corporation must make strenuous self-help efforts to secure their financial soundness on their own."
At a temporary Cabinet meeting held that day, Prime Minister Han said, "The agenda to be approved today includes a bill to expand the corporate bond issuance limit for Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Gas Corporation, but they must also make self-help efforts separately." The Prime Minister's Office held the temporary Cabinet meeting to approve budget-related subsidiary laws to be implemented from next year and urgent bills passed by the National Assembly this week.
He also mentioned the tax reform plan reflected in the budget subsidiary bill. Prime Minister Han elaborated, "The focus was on easing the tax burden on households and businesses to invigorate our economy and creating an investment environment that meets global standards." He also expressed regret, saying, "It is very unfortunate that the content originally pursued by the government was not fully reflected during the National Assembly's deliberation process."
Prime Minister Han emphasized, "The Ministry of Economy and Finance and related ministries should actively seek necessary supplementary measures to revitalize the economy and support people's livelihoods."
